The mayor had no official vehicle and was using a borrowed Toyota 4X4 Virgo truck. The council also had two aged refuse collection trucks, one of which is off the road.
“The purchase of the new refuse truck came at an opportune time as the council was struggling to collect refuse around the town. The council had two old refuse collection trucks which failed to cope with the demand. One of the trucks broke down recently and this had negatively impacted on refuse collection. Hopefully service delivery will improve now,” said Nyandoro.
Marondera is a sprawling town with a population of more than 100 000 people. The huge population placed a heavy burden on the council refuse collection service.
“The new mayoral vehicle will also enable Nyandoro to execute his official duties without having to travel in a borrowed car. All other town mayors received council vehicles long ago and Nyandoro is the only one yet to enjoy the privilege,” said a top council official.Post published in: News
