PLAN bankroll child empowerment

Plan International said it will bankroll empowerment programmes in the rural areas of Manicaland to the tune of $3, 5 million over the next three years.

The three districts set to benefit from the funding are Mutare, Chipinge and Mutasa.

Addressing the various stakeholders who gathered to celebrate Plan’s 25 year anniversary, the President and Chief Executive Officer for Plan International Canada, Rosemary McCarney, said her organisation was gearing up efforts to empower the girl child through various empowerment projects next year.

“We want to make sure that we assist the people of Zimbabwe to achieve the Millennium Development Goals through supporting developmental projects such as empowerment of girl child and improvement of the quality of education. We will be channelling $3, 5 million into girl child empowerment programmes,” said McCarney.

She said Plan was committed to improving the lives of less privileged Zimbabweans through income generating projects. Plan Zimbabwe Country Director, Madam Else Kragholm, hailed the community of Manicaland for working closely with their organisation.
