SA deportees go home

Zimbabweans being deported from South Africa are opting to go home using transport provided by the International Organisation of Migration.

Statistics available from IOM indicate that from October 7 – November 7, 1605 returning deportees went to the IOM office for assistance and were helped to get to their homes.

Folen Murapa, an official with IOM, said at the moment IOM only had the details of people who had sought refugee at their offices.

The national figures are with the Department of Immigration which was not immediately available for comment. There are assumptions that most people deported from South Africa quickly make their way back into the country, but present statistics from IOM reveal that the majority of Zimbabweans who register at the IOM offices are opting to go home.
