Gumede told The Zimbabwean that ZIFA was abandoning the old style of releasing a duty roster stating which referees would handle forthcoming matches. In the past, ZIFA produced a four week roster for referees, creating an opportunity for the public to offer them bribes.
“We have stopped this issue of producing a duty raster because we have received reports of match fixing,” Gumede said. “Referees will be personally phoned and informed of their duty on a Friday or Saturday.”
Referees last week complained of being side-lined from the Mbada cup semi-finals after the soccer governing body invited officials from South Africa and Zambia to referee. The semi-final match between Dynamos and Platinum FC was handled by South African officials while the Mutare derby was officiated by Zambian referees.
Gumede insisted that the decision was made by the sponsors.Post published in: Football
