Stray lions wreak havoc

Stray lions here are posing a threat to local villagers and livestock.

The National Parks and Wildlife Authority confirmed the reports, saying the Nyangani National Park in the eastern highlands now had lions, despite the fact that the wildlife sanctuary does not have a security fence to protect people.

Authority Director General Vitalis Chadenga admitted that lions had been seen in the area and said he had deployed personnel to track the beasts before they do any damage.

“We have received the reports and at the moment we have a team on the ground trying to track the lions. People should not panic, but report to the authority or police if they see the lions,” Chadenga said.Chadenga said the authority was working hard to provide security for people and urged travellers to exercise caution.
