The much anticipated Wenimbe-Marondera 15 km water pipe-line will be completed by March next year, it has been revealed.

Chinese Contractors working on the water project assured Member of Parliament, Iain Kay and Mayor Farai Nyandoro that they were working flat out to ensure the project ran as scheduled.

“As you can see, we are now just less than five kilometres away from the town centre. The project is on schedule and will be completed by next March. We have laid pipes from Wenimbe Dam to this point, Ruzawi, a distance of well over 10 kilometres. As contractors, we are happy with our efforts so far,” said a spokesperson for the contractor.

When the water project is complete, Marondera will have access to safer water which will need fewer chemicals than current council water sources such as Nyambuya and Rufaro dams.

“Despite accessing safer water form Wenimbe which would be cheaper to purify, water woes will remain a challenge as the Wenimbe Water Project will not be enough to supply the entire town. To improve the water supply, the council water treatment plant requires expansion,” Nyandoro told Kay.

He also attributed continued water woes to erratic power supplies that affected water pumps at the dams.
