Women’s role is crucial: MDC

Women have a critical role to play in the national processes and in influencing democratic change, a senior MDC official has said.

Speaking to The Zimbabwean on Friday, the MDC provincial chairlady of the women’s assembly for Masvingo province, Judith Muzhavazhi, said women should take the initiative in mobilising the people towards real change.

“We believe women can play an important role in both the constitution making process and the electoral process. Women constitute the bulk of the Zimbabwean population. We should, therefore, have a say in promoting fundamental human rights through the new constitution. We have to stand up and be counted,” said Muzhavazhi.

She said the provincial women’s assembly had already lined up activities throughout the province to ensure the viability and accountability of the assembly. This, she said, would ensure women were involved in decision making programmes.
