Zanu broke, no money for electioneering

A senior Zanu (PF) Politburo recently revealed that his party was financially broke ahead of the elections pencilled in for next year.

Speaking to The Zimbabwean on condition of anonymity, a senior Politburo member said the death of the former Libyan strongman, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, was a huge blow to the party as he used to finance their election campaigns.

“We are having financial problems which, in my view, spell the end of the party. Strategically, it’s not good to engage in elections in our state as it’s suicidal. Our campaign team have managed to buy only 395 vehicles for our campaign programmes which I think is not good enough if we are to reach all the corners of the country,” he said.

“The death of our former great ally, the late Libyan leader Col. Gaddafi, played a big role in our situation as he used to bail us out. Another problem is that since the death of the late former Army General Solomon Mujuru, the party is divided and no one is willing to fund a dying horse. He used to play a big uniting role,” he added.

Zanu (PF) spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo, was unavailable to comment on the issue.
