Zanu (pf) thugs disrupt Tsvangirai's rally

Members of President Mugabe's ruling party have violently disrupted an MDC rally that was suppoosed to be addressed by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, prompting the party to cancel the rally.

Seven MDC supporters were critically injured in inter-party clashes at Chibuku Stadium in Chitungwiza, with the marauding thugs stealing the PA system. They have been rushed to Avenues Clinic where they are getting treated for bruises, tissue injuries and various degrees of injuries. Tsvangirai'a aide Zebediah Juaba is among those critically injured, with fractured skull. Seven MDC vehicles were damaged in the violence.

MDC secretary general Tendai Biti told a news conference that the MDC was forced to cancel the rally "because of incredible acts of wanton violence, malicious violence that we have suffered at the hands of Zanu PF."

Zanu PF spokesman Rugare Gumbo denied that his party was involved.

"We do not accept that those people were Zanu PF," Gumbo said.
