Zim students study in the US

Zimbabwe has the third highest number of African students enrolled at American universities, according to an annual report.

According to the report on international academic mobility published by the Institute of International Education, Zimbabwe sent 94 students per 1 million citizens to study in the US in 2010-2011, placing it third on the continent.

The overall number of Zimbabwean students enrolled in US institutions of higher education in 2010-11 decreased by two percent compared to the previous year.

“The decline is attributable to the economic situation. However, from the growing

interest we have seen at our advising centres in Harare, Gweru and Bulawayo, we expect the numbers to stabilize in the coming years,” said Rebecca Zeigler Mano,

Education USA Coordinator at the US Embassy in Harare.

“The United States continues to host more international students than any other country in the world,” said Allan Goodman, President and CEO of the Institute of International Education.
