The investigation team will be led by F Mbetsa, an official from the Manicaland administration.

Lately the council has been marred by reports of corruption. Councillor Johannes Ngodzo is under prosecution for swindling residents of thousands of dollars. Director of Finance, Albert Zingwe, was also fired for embezzling funds and stealing 2 000 streetlights.

In a letter addressed to the council, Chombo wrote that the probe team should: “Establish how widely the council consulted on the 2011 budget and ascertain whether the council has complied with the 30:70% salaries to service delivery ratio.”

The investigating team was also tasked to verify the reasons surrounding the resignation of Internal Auditor Morris Mutema. The letter was also copied to provincial governor Jaison Machaya, provincial administrator Cecilia Chitiyo, Kwekwe administrator Tenpercent Mutikizizi and Mayor Shadreck Tobaiwa.
