Mbada should fund AIDS work: Chitaure

Mbada Diamond Company has been criticised for prioritising recreational activities over the funding of HIV/AIDS programmes.

Speaking at a media training workshop organised by SAFAIDS recently, Coordinator for the Zimbabwe Country Coordinating Mechanism for Global Fund, Rangarirai Chitaure took a swipe at Mbada Diamond Company for bankrolling soccer initiatives and turning a deaf ear to HIV/AIDS programmes.

“I’m not saying there is anything wrong with funding soccer. The question is, what are organisations doing about health?” said Chitaure.

Social commentator, Richard Gore, said organisations and companies were putting their money where their incentives are.

“If Mbada Diamond Company is putting its money in soccer, do you think they would do that for free? There are obviously some incentives that come with such sponsorships, be it financially or otherwise,” Gore said.
