The 21-year-old beat 11 other contestants to land the crown and its R2 500 first prize at a glittering ceremony at the City Hall here. 18-year-old Lisa Skhosana and Samantha Kudzanai Nyampanda, 20, were voted the first and second princesses respectively.

The elated winner said the award would set her on a road she had always dreamt of.

“It’s the happiest moment of my life, a dream come true indeed,” she told The Zimbabwean soon after the ceremony. “This is the beginning of my modelling career and comes from determination and proper training. This is testimony that following one’s dreams does lead to success in life.”

Pageant director, Thamsanqa Ncube, said the annual event would go a long way towards showcasing Zimbabwean talent in the neighbouring country and create a platform of interaction with locals to avoid xenophobia.

“The girls are young, passionate and brilliant and this will also help them in their future careers in modelling,” said Ncube.

The runners-up got R1 500 and R1 000 for first and second place respectively, while other participants received vouchers and beauty products.
