Newspapers destroyed by thugs

Zanu (PF) thugs recently confiscated and destroyed dozens of copies of The Zimbabwean, the MDC’s The Changing Times and the Legal Monitor. “The thugs led by Tendai Nhau waylaid MDC-T Provincial Member, Temba Mukunyayidze, on his way from a party meeting on November 12 and ordered him to surrender the reading material since they were ‘prohibited publications’ in the area.

Nhau manhandled Mukunyayidze while other thugs lambasted the MDC and publishers of the reading material,” said an eye witness.

Mukunyayidze went on to make a police report, but despite the culprits having been identified, no arrests were made. Villages 14, 17 and 18 were sealed off from MDC by Zanu (PF). Independent publications were prohibited in the area.

Perpetrators of June 2008 violence such as Isaiah Gonye, Murewa Ruzvidzo and Tendai Nhau, among others, continue to victimize suspected anti-Mugabe villagers. Mukunyayidze and several other villagers lost households and property to Zanu (PF)-sponsored violence in 2008.
