Armed police officers loot MDC property, documents at the Bulawayo office

Heavily armed anti-riot police in Bulawayo last Saturday raided MDC provincial offices looting party property and regalia before arresting 50 Youth Assembly members.

The youth had gathered at the provincial offices to hold a peace march calling for the release of MDC Youth Assembly chairperson, Solomon Madzore.

Madzore and seven other activists are in remand prison facing false charges of murdering a police officer in Glen View, Harare in May last year.

The march had to be called off due to the disturbances by the police.

The MDC is concerned that important party documents and regalia including T-shirts were taken away by the police.

The arrested youths were released on Sunday with no charges brought against them.

The police raid on the Bulawayo offices came two days after the anti-riot police officers stormed Harvest House and arrested eight MDC members.

One of the youths arrested in Harare, Barnabas Mwanaka is receiving treatment at Parirenyatwa Hospital after the police officers broke his right leg.
