Council Chairperson for the business committee, Thomas Muzuva, confirmed council was owed millions, with properties being leased for a song.
“It’s true some council properties are being leased for peanuts. For example, Zanu (PF) has been paying $100 for its provincial offices at 4th street and they are not alone. Some actually declare they do not want to pay while others are sub-letting – like the Parkade along Julius Nyerere Way – making a killing while paying council peanuts or refusing to pay,” said Muzuva.
City Treasurer Misheck Mubvumbi said although he could not say much he was aware of defaulting city tenants.
“I can’t give you specific details speak to Gwindi (Council Spokesperson) but what I know is we have a lot of defaulting tenants,” he said.
