Council firing illegal: ZCTU

The recent firing of eight Gweru Council employees who also doubled as leaders of various workers’ unions is illegal says the

Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions. They were fired last week for demonstrating against delayed November salaries and annual bonuses.

Among the sacked were: Robson Kilimboi, Zimbabwe Urban Council Workers Union local chairperson, his secretary Kudakwashe Munengiwa, Silas Mutendeudzwa, the Water Workers Allied Union local chairperson, and Gweru Residents and Rate Payers Association leader Connelias Silipiwe. They all allege they are being victimised for exposing corruption at town house.

Last week residents took to the streets alleging that councillors have enriched themselves with ratepayers’ money while are fast deteriorating.
