I am not a flop – Samakweri

Christopher Samakwere says he did not fail to make the grade at DRC side Tout Puissant Mazembe Englebert.

The midfielder, who failed to assert himself at the two-time African champions during the past two seasons, mourned lack of game time.

“I wouldn’t say I failed because I was not good enough, but I was not given a fair chance to prove myself,” he said. “To be honest, there were times when I thought I deserved to play, but defenders were chosen ahead of me to play as wingers. I then realised that I was not in the coach’s plans.”

Samakwere is one of the local players failed to make the grade after signing for the DRC club. Others were Darryl Nyandoro, Mthulisi Maphosa and Daniel Zokoto.

A wide midfield player who can play on either flank, he has since signed a three-year contract with Caps United.

He went to the DRC after he starred for Zimbabwe in the 2009 COSAFA Senior Challenge in 2010.
