In a state case led by prosecutor Takesure Svondo and presided over by Magistrate Ignatio Mhene, it is alleged that the officer, Daron Chirewa, assaulted a juvenile (name withheld) whom he suspected of stealing his chickens, by tying his legs, hands and private parts to an iron bar.
It is alleged that Chirewa went to the minor’s house and accused him of stealing his chickens. The juvenile denied this, but said Chirewa took him to a secluded place and tortured him. He was saved by Crispen Khumalo (32) who came to the scene after he heard him crying for assistance. The matter was remanded to February 13.
