$3,7m for KweKwe

The African Development Bank has pledged to unlock a $3,7 million facility to assist the KweKwe council’s water and sewer reticulation project.

Owed over $10 million by residents and firms, the council is battling to meet service delivery demands. Densely populated suburbs like Mbizo, Ameveni, Torwood and Rutendo experience regular sewer pipe bursts.

The Mayor, Shadreck Tobaiwa, said the funds would be channelled towards purchasing standard water and sewer pipes ending an era of the present ones made of steel.

“The steel pipes we are putting in place give lots of problems each time there is need sort out a sewer burst and that has been the reason why we have failed to completely contain the problem to date,” he said.
