Chrome Stars, Hardbody fight

Kwekwe-based Central Soccer League division one side, Chrome Stars, have informed ZIFA of their intention to sue champions Hardbody for alleged defamation.

Hardbody recently alleged in a report that Stars coach Gatsi Mkombwe and referee Munyaradzi Majoni were bribed by Beitbridge-based Tripple B before their league match at Mbizo Stadium last October.

Hardbody have a seven-day ultimatum to retract the report or face litigation. In a letter copied to the “Watosvorwa boys”, Stars said the alleged bribery allegation had not been supported with evidence and added that Hardbody’s chairman, Patrick Chikwanda, had failed to honour his commitment to offer a public apology.

“It seems you have taken our silence to mean that we condone such irrational behaviour you exhibited. Please be reminded that we reserve the right to sue for defamation and time is coming up to reserve that right,” wrote Chrome Stars.

Chikwanda believes the issue will be solved amicably and claimed “progressive” talks between the clubs.
