Church leaders’ offensive

Zimbabwe’s church leaders have launched a regional offensive to force President Robert Mugabe to implement key reforms ahead of elections he wants held this year in a move the ruling party described as “fishy”.

The leaders, under the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations, have prepared a report detailing stumbling blocks to free and fair elections which they are presenting to SADC ministers of justice.

The document is entitled “The role of the church in nation building in Zimbabwe”. It identifies media, security and electoral reforms as a must if the country is to hold a credible poll.
