Joe Mutizwa to retire from delta

PEARSON Gowero has been appointed Delta CEO with effect from June 1 taking over from Joe Mutizwa who will retire form the company on May 31 The Zimbabwean can reveal.

Gowero, is currently the Chief Operating Officer, a position he assumed in July last year on his return from a secondment to the SABMiller Group where he was the MD of Zambian Breweries Group for 5 years.

Mutizwa was appointed CEO in April 2002, having joined the group in March 1983. He rose through the ranks to become MD of the soft drinks business in 1992, before his promotion to CEO of the beverages division in November 2005.

He was involved in the de-merger and unbundling of the non-beverages businesses between 2000 and 2001 and presided over the subsequent consolidation and refocus of the beverages businesses under Delta Beverages.

Mutizwa successfully steered the group during the difficult years of hyperinflation and has been instrumental in leading the business recovery since the dollarisation of the economy in 2009. He leaves the group in a very strong position, which is testimony to his strong leadership skills.
