Olympics team ups tempo

The National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe has lined up regional and international competitions to prepare athletes for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The association recently hosted a successful National Cross Country at Allan Lowry Golf Club in Redcliff, meant to identify talent.

“The winners will now be drafted into a squad to compete at the Africa Cross-Country Championships in Cape Town next month. This will be part of preparations for the Olympics,” said NAAZ President, Joseph Mungwari.

Zimbabwean athletes are also expected to battle it out at the International Meet in Mauritius in the same month, before the Steinmetz Marathon in Botswana.

Their biggest test however, might come from the Africa Senior Championships in Benin. The squad has also lined up the IAAF World Race Walking Cup, slatted for Russia.
