Makoni and 10 high school students founded Girl Child Network in 1999 at Zengeza 1 High. It has grown into a global project.

The book, through prose poetry is intrusively self-emptying on Betty’s life both as a child rape victim and the circumstances in her home with domestic violence by her father that ultimately claimed her mother’s life. The book is the epitome of what poet T S Elliot quipped: ‘my private thoughts expressed in public’. Her clients would surely not feel inhibited with someone who also emptied herself.
