Mutambara fell from the helm of his MDC faction last year after losing to Professor Ncube at congress, and efforts by the party to recall him from his position as one of the three principals to the GPA have hit a brick wall.
The MDC wants Professor Ncube, the new leader, to take up the post. However, President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai have both consistently maintained they cannot take Professor Ncube on board because the matter is before the courts.
“President Mugabe and Tsvangirai cannot say who should represent our party as principal to the GPA. The supporters expressed their wish at the congress and they are clear it is the president of the party who can only be principal in the GPA,” said Professor Ncube.
“Mutambara himself has become a liability to the party. It’s clear that since he assumed leadership of the party, we have lost significant support.” The remarks by Professor Ncube are likely to further deepen the rivalry for control of the MDC.Post published in: News
