Plan joins malnutrition battle

PLAN Zimbabwe donated a vehicle to Sakubva General Hospital in Mutare to expand and decentralize community management of acute malnutrition from heath centres to village level.

Speaking at handover ceremony of new Toyota Land cruiser 4×4, PLAN Programmes Unit Manager, Garikayi Nyakujara said nutrition support programme objectives were improvement in nutrition and health status of children, mothers and other vulnerable people, including nutrition support for HIV and TB treatment.

He said the new vehicle will assist the health personnel to reach new patients on Anti Retroviral Therapy who are malnourished or become malnourished during the first phase of treatment.

Nyakujara said the nutritional programme would reduce and stabilize prevalence of acute malnutrition among children through prevention of stunting in moderately and severely malnourished children between 6-23 months.
