The development puts to an end a decade-long sponsorship limbo which had threatened the continued existence of the game in the province.
Unveiling the open-ended sponsorship deal, whose actual figures will depend on costs incurred in the league during the season, George Mitchell Sportswear owner, Pascal Muringani said the company was playing its social responsibility part.
“We feel indebted to be part and parcel of the Midlands pool league. As partners in the sportswear department, we thought we should help in making the league a success,” said Muringani.
He added that more plans are under-way to promote the game by way of bankrolling invitational tournaments.
“This gesture is worth praising. It is a milestone achievement for everyone with pool at heart in the country at large,” said Molest Gaka, Midlands Premier Pool League chairman.
It is not the first time that the sportswear franchise has associated itself with the Midlands Pool. Recently the suppliers of all sports materials bankrolled an invitational tournament in Shurugwi, where 48 teams participated.Post published in: Football
