It is with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the death of 18 people in the Nyanga commuter omnibus crash.

The death toll keeps rising and our prayers are with the deceased, their friends and relatives and the injured who are recuperating in hospital.

It is sad that as a nation, we have been plunged once again into mourning hapless victims of yet another crash on our roads. The site of the accident has indeed become a dark spot after 89 students perished there in 1991; those blooming flowers with great ambition that would have been proud parents today.

As Government, we urge caution and restraint on the roads. We are also aware that the poor road infrastructure needs urgent redress if we are to mitigate the carnage on our roads and highways.

It is indeed regrettable that innocent men and women on their way to praise their Lord would be involved in such a horrific crash. May the good Lord receive the deceased in his Kingdom and may he answer our prayers to save those battling for life in hospital.

To those in hospital, our thoughts are with you and I wish you a speedy recovery.
