The revelations were made by the Minister of Finance Tendai Biti during the presentation of the monthly economy review for February at the New Government Complex in Harare today.
According to Biti the President has approved the appointment of Mr Pikile Mlambo as the First Deputy and Charity Dhliwayo as the second deputy.
Renowned economists Brains Muchemwa, Kenias Mafukidze and Tony Hawkins were appointed as Committee members.
‘’I can safely say, the President has agreed to the appointment of Mr Pikile Mlambo and Mrs Charity Dhliwayo as the two deputies of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. The approval has been granted and will soon be announced publicly, ‘he said.
During the presentation Minister Biti also revealed that the coins that were ordered from the United States of America (USA) were stuck in Walvis Bay in Namibia since they require some US$5 Million for transportation.
The coins are expected to ease the serious coin shortages currently bedeviling consumers. “The coins are stuck at Walvis Bay as a result of the costs of transporting them. We require some US$5 million and they also need security to bring them here
Earlier at Parliament, Finance Minister Biti hinted that the RBZ required reforms so as to bring back its credible status as the lender of last resort. He declared that farmers who benefitted during the Agriculture Mechanization Programme had contributed towards the collapse of the RBZ and urged Parliament to get a compilation of a list of those who benefitted so that they can be brought to book.Post published in: News
