The awards which started last year are the brainchild of UK based Zimbabwean businessman Conrad Mwanza. He said the awards seek to recognise Zimbabweans mainly in the Diaspora who have excelled in the arts, business, media and other fields “while pushing against the odds to raise the Zimbabwean flag.”
The 2012 awards which are being sponsored by Moneygram were launched at a London hotel on Saturday and organisers announced the full list of nominees. These included swimmer Kirsty Coventry, singer Cynthia Mare, hotelier Viola Ncube, academic Dr Alex Magaisa, BBC journalist Lewis Machipisa and others.
The awards will be honouring people in the fields of music, sports, culture, business, journalism, radio presentation, charity work, fashion, community work, conservation, academic work, event promotion and many others.
