TZ fails players

Tennis Zimbabwe has disappointed six junior tennis players’ hopes to participate at next month’s International Tennis Federation, African Junior Championships in limbo.

Mutare’s Karen Muswere, Alywn Mushonga, Karen Machisa and Keith Mwashita and Courtney Lock and TadiwaChinamo from Harare, will have to fork out their own money for the Egypt tournament, after the mother body’s failure to fund the trip costing $1500 per player.

Despite the setback, the players were last week still hopeful of not only travelling, but doing well as well in the competition that will also be used as a platform for Davis Cup and Fed Cup competitions.

“I want to at least reach the semi-finals. I am going to work hard, although I know that it will be very tough,” said Mushonga, who failed to participate last year, after he was eliminated in the regional finals. He reached the quarter-finals in 2010.
