Workers resist audit

Zanu (PF) is resisting a skills audit for workers at Marondera municipality, despite the bloated staff chewing more than 85 percent of its monthly revenue.

Marondera currently has 537 workers. But with a population of 120,000 only 150 workers are needed, according to the Mayor, Farai Nyandoro.

Nyandoro told a recent council meeting said that the previous Zanu (PF) council employed at least 120 party youths just before the bloody 2008 elections.

There are allegations that most of the employees who are now resisting the audit were actively involved in acts of violence and intimidation as Zanu (PF) lost its stronghold in the capital of Mashonaland East province.

“The workers say they are being witch-hunted, which is not true. We are only doing something that is common in a professional organisation,” said Nyandoro. He said council had approached the Minister, Ignatius Chombo, but he had been unable to assist.
