Cooperation urged

Local companies have been urged to strengthen bilateral relations with South African companies to raise their global profile. The Chief Executive of the Zimbabwe Exporters Union, CephasMawoyo, said companies should also advocate for the responsible authorities and ministries to help craft a conducive business environment and explore a legal framework for business partnerships in order to develop the country’s infrastructure.

“It is critical that we design workable ways in which the public and private sectors players can cooperate. There are numerous case studies from South Africa, China and India from which we can learn,” he said. Mawoyo said the government should appreciate that it had a lot to learn from South Africa and other countries in the region where the private sector participates in developing infrastructure such as roads, water reticulation and power generation systems.

He encouraged discussion on specific cooperation projects such as the Chiadzwa diamond and Methane gas fields.
