Fish project takes off in Masvingo

The drought-prone region of Masvingo and Chivi districts, currently battling critical nutritional levels, has received a fish stock boost from Aquaculture Zimbabwe.

Masvingo district has been successfully stocked with close to 400 000 fish while Chivi has received close to 150 000. Their survival rate has been rated at 99%.

“Beneficiary registration is now complete with a total of 500 households registered with us,” says Aquaculture Zimbabwe, which is spearheading the project with donor support.

Identification of project beneficiaries and pond construction sites has been done in cooperation with the department of Livestock Production, the department of agricultural extension, the Environmental Management Agency and the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.
