Masvingo MP arrested

Jeffryson Chitando, the MP for Masvingo Central, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly threatening to kill Chief Murinye. He was detained at Masvingo

Central Police Station. Detectives said they were detaining him after receiving a complaint from the Chief that the MP had threatened to kill him.

However, they were unable to give any details about when the threats were made.Chitando dismissed the police and the chief’s claims and said the issue was nothing but political. Murinye is a known Zanu(PF) supporter and last month summoned Chitando to his court to explain why he had held a successful MDC rally in the area. The MP declined to attend the meeting.

In what is seen as selective application of the law, the police have not yet arrested the godfather of the violent Chipangano Gang, Tendai Savanhu, for threatening to kill Iain Kaye, the MP for Marondera.
