Mat North Zanu (PF) Senior official jailed

A Lupane magistrate, Takudzwa Gwazembe on Wednesday this week jailed Zanu PF) Matabeleland North Secretary for legal Affairs John Roberts Khumalo for a year after he was found guilty of stealing two community diesel powered engines worth $7 600.

Khumalo (57) who denied the theft charges was sentenced to three years in jail but two years of the sentence was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

According to the state outline ,Khumalo stole two Lister water pump engines donated by the Norwegian Development Agency to the Jotsholo community more than 10 years ago.

The engines were meant for a cattle rearing project.

Sometime in 2008 Khumalo, a former councillor collected the engines from villagers claiming that he was taking them for repairs.

He sold one of the engines to Buster Magwizi, the ZIPRA Veterans Trust chairman .The engine was recovered at Magwizi's home after the villagers had made a report. The other engine was lent to Christel Dube.

Khumalo was represented by Solomon Mguni while the state was represented by Sanders Sibanda.

Early this month, three Zanu (PF) youths were jailed for an effective three years after they were found guilty of extortion and kidnapping commuter omnibus touts at a long distance pick up point in Bulawayo.
