In his speech to mark Zimbabwe’s 32nd anniversary independence celebrations in Harare, Mugabe urged political parties to shun violence.
“I and my colleagues were barred from attending the celebrations at Zimunda primary school because we are MDC activists,” said the MDC ward chairperson of the area, James Chirongwe.
Chirongwe said they were told by the youths that the celebrations were exclusively for Zanu (PF), which fought in the struggle to liberate Zimbabwe.
He described the actions of the youths as unfair because MDC supporters had contributed $2 each towards the hosting of the celebrations.
Leftover meat from the beasts slaughtered for the occasion was allegedly shared among Zanu (PF) senior officials in the ward.
