Only 50 years left for Hwange, says Minister Nhema

HWANGE has only 50 years of activity left, Francis Nhema, the Minister of the Environment, has warned.

He says the country should seriously guard its natural resources and not just go around cutting trees or mining "everywhere". "You can't grow gold," he said.

"He who pollutes must pay. What will we have in the future if we just go about polluting everywhere. Hwange has 50 years of active life left and surveys have shown this."

He said when the natural resources had gone the country would not have anything to mine.

"Look at what happened at Kamative Mines," he said in Harare. "Look at what has happened at Zvishavane and see the actions of our own people." "We mus protect our environment."
