Poetry slam is back

On 14 April, Harare’s Book Café will hold the monthly ‘House of Hunger’ Poetry Slam.

The Slam which has been silent for the past 3 months will spring to life following the sudden closure of the old Book Café premises in late last year.

We are expecting new 2012 performances with regards to the content as well as the faces. Many poets have missed out as the country lacks many vibrant poetry platforms. The development of poetry has been undoubtedly slow but surely progress has been made and many thanks go to the poets who have been resilient and standing their ground to make sure Zimbabwe’s poetry continues to grow.

The House of Hunger Poetry Slam would like to extend its gratitude to the poets who have been there during the highs and lows and this platform will continue to try and raise appreciation for poetry in Zimbabwe and beyond.

For most this will be the first time to be at the new Book Café and I hope many people will come out to support and most importantly to appreciate what ‘our’ poets have to offer.

The ‘House of Hunger Poetry Slam’, gives poets a platform to express themselves freely and explicitly through the spoken word and provides a consistent space to practice performance poetry and articulate issues affecting their lives and communities.

To perform one has to register before 2pm.

The new address is 139 Samora Machel Avenue, corner 6th street.
