Young Mighty Warriors out of World Cup

Michael Kariati Zimbabwe’s Young Mighty Warriors are out of the 2012 World Cup after they were beaten 3-0 at home by Nigeria’s Falcons at Rufaro Stadium Sunday.

The Zimbabweans bow out 6-0 on aggregate after having lost 3-0 in the first leg in Lagos two weeks ago.

The defeat was confirmed as early as the first 45 minutes as the Zimbabweans were trailing 2-0 despite the huge support that the team drummed up for the match.

Those first goals came courtesy of Desire Oparanozi and Ester Sunday.

Orji Ebere gave the Nigerians their third goal deep in the second half to make it a disappointing 6-0 aggregate loss for Zimbabwe.

There was no will and driving power as the Nigerians dominated play in the 45 minutes, playing purposeful football. The Nigerian team did very well much to the disappointment of the thousands of home fans who were at the stadium anticipating a victory for the hosts.

It became difficult for the Zimbabweans to rally from behind as the Zimbabweans were 5-0 on aggregate and needed an impossible six goals to win.

The Nigerians will now go on to play the winner between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali in the final match for the World Cup finals to be held in Japan.

The Nigerians will also play in the 2012 London Olympic Games in July while for Zimbabwe it is back to the drawing board to find out what went wrong and how that can be rectified.
