25 years for serial robber

A local magistrate has slapped a 28-year-old serial robber from Rusape with a 25 year jail term.

Edmore Muchichwa pleaded guilty to eight counts of unlawful entry, theft and robbery. In one case he stole a DVD decoder and home theatre worth $250 from the shop of Daniel Sibanda, of Amaveni in Kwekwe. In September 2009 Chemist Ndlovu of Bulawayo and his wife gave Muchichwa a lift. He produced a pistol and a knife and demanded cash and cellphones from the complainant, his wife and other passengers. He robbed them of property worth P100 Pula, R200 and US$125 of US$100 was recovered.

In various other incidents Muchichwa would be given lifts and upon reaching Kwekwe, he would rob passengers of cash and other valuables at gunpoint or by threatening them with a knife. After his arrest on 1 November 2009, Muchichwa was detained at Kwekwe General Hospital. He asked for permission from the police officer guarding him to go to the toilet but he escaped through a window. He was later re-arrested.
