Headmaster in court

Groombridge Primary School Headmaster, Stephen Akino, has appeared in court for allegedly ill-treating a Grade Four pupil by making her stand in the rain and ridiculing her. Akino (58) appeared before Harare Magistrate, Don Ndirowei, who remanded him out of custody to June 5.

Prosecutor Innocent Chingarande alleged that on 8 February at around eight o’clock in the morning, the girl arrived late. On her way to the classroom, she met the headmaster, who asked her to leave the school premises.

But her teacher ignored this and took her into class. On 5 March, the girl arrived at school late again. Akino allegedly called her and told her to sit where other children were gathered, then sent the others to class, leaving the complainant alone in the open. He then allegedly started laughing and saying she was not a normal person before leaving her alone. – Talent Bhachi

$2,000 for adultery

A Harare woman has sued her husband’s lover for $2,000 at the Harare Civil Court and won. Memory Ndoro, dragged her husband’s girlfriend, Rachel Mupinduki, to court accusing her of having an affair with her spouse for the past six years. She demanded $2,000 as compensation for emotional suffering.

“I came across some romantic text messages they were sending each other,” Ndoro told the court. When she confronted Rachel, she vowed to continue seeing her husband.

Mupinduki did not deny the affair. “Her husband is the one who did not tell me the truth. I didn’t know that he was under Chapter 5.11 and that’s why I had an affair with him,” she said, adding that she was not in a position to pay $2,000 as she was a hairdresser and earned a paltry salary.

Magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti ordered her to pay the damages. – Talent Bhachi
