Electoral Bill hits a snag

The PLC’s adverse report on the Electoral Amendment Bill, announced by the Speaker on March 27, means Parliament cannot proceed to the next stage until the House has considered the adverse report in committee and then in plenary session and voted on a resolution to adopt the adverse report.

If the House adopts the adverse report, any clause the House finds to be inconsistent with the Constitution will then have to be dropped from the Bill or amended so as to remove the inconsistency.
