Sikhala has been arrested for a cocktail of allegations ranging from murder, attempted murder, fraud and kidnapping.
The outspoken politician said he was on the run as police officers from the Law and Order section were looking for him.
A recent statement by his party indicated that the police swooped on his house in Chitungwiza but he was away at the time of the raid.
The police Commissioner General, Augustine Chihuri, at a recent pass out parade, fired a broadside at Sikhala, who has been agitating for mass unrest to unseat President Robert Mugabe, in power since 1980.
“Through my active political participation for the past one and a half decades, I am the most incarcerated politician in the country. Sixty times I have been arrested and all sorts of allegations have been levelled against me—from murder, attempted murder, fraud and kidnapping. But at no particular point have I been convicted,’’ he said.
“I have been coming to Mutare for the past 2 years, coming to attend to a silly case here but the witnesseshave admitted that they were tortured for two days to stand against me,” added Sikhala.
He said that the police were attempting to level a trumped up rape charge against him.
“There is noprofession in our country that is riskier than being an opposition leader. We all know that since 1980, there is a certain political party that is behind this,’’ he said, referring to (Zanu PF).
Since 1980, all political opposition parties have been incarcerated tortured or murdered at the hands of Zanu (PF), he said.Post published in: News
