He told party organising secretaries that there was no law which compelled them to notify police of small indoor meetings.
“Even under the notorious Public Order and Security Act, POSA, it would not be an offence to hold indoor party meetings without advising the law enforcement agents,” said Chamisa. “Police need only be notified of the intended gathering. They are supposed to maintain peace, not to be part of the gathering,” he added.
The MDC-T has constantly accused Zanu (PF) of using the police and other security arms to victimise or intimidate its supporters. Last year, the party leadership was denied the chance to address its supporters on various occasions, while Zanu (PF) youths were mobilised to attack those attending.
In some cases, Zanu (PF) followers playing soccer games have been the go-ahead at venues ahead of organised rallies.
