“Jani selflessly championed the struggle for democracy. Despite clear signs that his life was in danger, hedid not chicken out of the fight against dictatorship. He was an inspiration to colleagues in the struggle against Zanu (PF) and other agents of doom,” said MDC-T Mashonaland East Provincial Youth Organiser, Brighton Takavadini.
Jani’s bullet riddled dead body was found days later in the Goromonzi area.
In a related development, MDC-T WardYouth Organizer Marondera Central, Tichafa Mayora, said he was mobilising party structures to conduct commemorations in honour of party leaders Portifa Bakayimana and Kainos Betera who were abducted in full view of residents by known CIO and Zanu (PF) agents in June 2008. The two have not been seen since.
“Commemorations in their memory will help reignite people’s zeal and fighting spirit in the struggle for democracy,” said Mayora.
