Ultimatum for Chiredzi residents to pay $4m

Chiredzi residents who owe the town $4 m have until end of April to pay or face legal action.

A spokesperson, Bernadette Tamba, said the decision for an ultimatum, although painful, was necessary. She said at a meeting last week that residents had failed to take advantage of Chiredzi’s pro-poor policies, which among others, encouraged people to propose a pay plan, should they encounter difficulties.

Both chairmen of the Chiredzi Residents Association, Hatinahama Munyaradzi and Josphat Tizirai who leads a splinter group, urged residents to settle their debts.

Chamber Secretary, Charles Muchatukwa, said timely payment of bills will improve service delivery.
