The two were arrested after the cops spotted their vehicle speeding and skipping a red robot. They gave chase and succeeded in cornering and stopping their vehicles a few metres away.
Police searched the vehicle and discovered a total of 886 boxes of counterfeit cigarettes to the value of more than R50 000.
The origin of the cigarettes, as well as the destination of the goods, is forming part of the investigation.
The Station Commander of the Mankweng Police Station, Brig Alex Seopa, warned smugglers.
“Police in Mankweng will leave no stone unturned to make sure that criminals are arrested and placed behind bars immediately after they commit crimes. We are also appealing to members of the community to assist the Police in their endeavours to prevent crime and provide information to the Police about criminal activities in their area,” he said.
