Zim talent to shine in UK

Young Zimbabwean musicians, poets and artists are coming together in London this weekend to showcase their unique talents and prove that they are more than just victims of a political and economic crisis.

The performance on Friday night, headlined by Mashasha, is part of the Zimbabwe Unwound project launched by the Zimbabwe Association which seeks to change the way those in the diaspora see themselves and the way we are viewed in our communities.

A spokesman from the organisation said: “The project seeks to dig deeper into the fabric of what makes Zimbabweans – regardless of their current circumstances – and seeks to harness their varied traits by creating an apolitical forum in which they can interact.”

The Zimbabwe Unwound project will include cultural and social events across the UK as well as forums for political and economic debates and an In Touch programme to link people in the diaspora to organisations back home and raise funds for humanitarian projects back home.

The launch of Zimbabwe Unwound is on Friday 18 May between 5pm and 9.30pm at Oxford House, Derbyshire St, Bethnal Green London E2 6HG. Tickets are a suggested £10 donation with £7.50 concessions. – www.zimbabweassociation.org.uk
